The Project

Presentation College Athenry is a new 1000 pupil post primary school in the townland of Ballygarraun South, Athenry, Co. Galway.

The build is approximately 10,042sqm over two storeys, with the school building linked to a single storey sports facility.

The completed structure includes general classrooms, interlinked classrooms, specialist rooms, general-purpose hall, special needs unit, and PE ancillary. Associated site works include external store, hard play court areas, sensory garden, secure hard and soft play areas, landscaping, car parking, covered area for construction studies and all civil works.

The Product

Kilsaran’s Clima-Pave Paving was specified for the project. In all, 4,500m2 of the product was laid in both natural and charcoal blocks to put the finishing touches to the state-of-the-art facility.

All constituent materials were closely monitored to guarantee consistency throughout the project to achieve the desired results.

The Process

Kilsaran’s Clima-Pave paving was chosen as an alternative to conventional paving as it allows water to filter through the paved structure rather than running off it. Both the surface and the sub-sections need to be designed with this function at the forefront. Residual water filters directly into the subsoil where conditions are suitable and in some instances can be held in a reservoir structure under the paving for reuse, infiltration or delayed release.
