Meet the Technical Team

Our Technical Team is made up of highly experienced construction materials professionals drawn from a range of backgrounds including civil engineering, construction materials, concrete and asphalt technology as well as quality management.

The Technical Team is responsible for product quality management and product conformity within all Kilsaran Group operations as well as providing product training and specialist advice and guidance to both retail and trade customers and specifiers.

In addition, our Senior Technical Staff sit on and proactively contribute to representative bodies as well as on standardisation and industry best practice committees.

All Kilsaran Technical Staff undergo comprehensive technical training to ensure that the high professional standards which we set are consistently maintained.

 

Ken Mulkerrins – Technical and R&D Manager – Dry Mortar Technologies

Ken’s core responsibilities within Kilsaran centre around our KPRO Dry Products division. Here Ken is responsible for the design and development of new dry mortar products, the management of the division’s Quality Assurance and Factory Product Control systems in addition to product certification.

Ken also holds responsibility within the group for masonry block products, trowel ready mortars, self-levelling screeds, our ISO 9001, 14001 and 50001 management systems, internal auditing and product certification.

Ken has over 22 years’ experience in the design and development of dry mortar products and systems and within the building materials industry and held previous roles in materials laboratory management, Quality Assurance, product certification and process manufacturing. Ken holds qualifications Quality Assurance and Production & Operations Management in addition to a Diploma in Business Management & Employment Law. Ken is also a current member of the NSAI Masonry Panel.

Technical Team

Vincent Anderson – Technical and Operations Manager

Vincent’s core responsibilities are the operational and technical management of all Kilsaran ready mix plants in the Dublin area.

He is a concrete technologist with over 18 years’ experience in production and technical and holds qualifications in Quarry Management as well as a specialist postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Concrete Technology. He also holds a Diploma in Organisation Development & Transformation, and is currently in the process of completing a Master’s Degree in business.

He is a current member of the Institute of Concrete Technology and a member of the Irish Concrete Federation’s Technical committee.

Alan Holton – Technical Manager – Facade Systems & Technical Mortars 

Alan’s main responsibilities span a wide range of products including specialist mortar products in the KPRO Dry Products Division, External wall insulation product system and our Precast Division.

With close to 20 years’ experience in construction, Alan has brought a wealth of knowledge to the team from previous roles such as Site Engineering and Management. Alan holds a Bachelor Honours Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Dundee and has gained invaluable site experience working on major projects in both Ireland and the UK before specialising in Construction Materials.

Alan is heavily involved in ongoing product R&D as well as the product specification and training side of the business directly liaising with architects, engineers and specifiers.

Clare McElroy – Quality & Regional (North East) Technical Manager

Clare’s primary responsibilities within Kilsaran centre around the strategic direction and management of our six construction material testing laboratories throughout the group which are accredited to the ISO/IEC 17025 quality management standard. She is also responsible for the recruitment, training and development of our junior technical staff as well as our core products quality management and product certification management systems. In addition Clare manages the product quality and technical function for our company locations in the North East area which includes readymix concrete, concrete blocks and aggregate production facilities.

She has over 25 years’ diverse experience in the building materials industry having been involved in both production and operations as well as in quality and technical aspects of the industry. Clare is highly experienced in the area of management systems and their application in both the heavy building materials industry and in construction more generally.

Stephen Greene – Regional Technical Manager (Southern Area)

Stephen is the Regional Technical Manager for the company’s operations in the southern region. He is responsible for the quality control of aggregate production, agri-lime, masonry blocks and ready-mix concrete at our sites in Cork and Tipperary.

Stephen has extensive experience in the construction and materials industry having worked in Ireland,  Australia and the UK as a Materials Engineer over the last 14 years. During this time, he has managed large scale laboratories, overseeing and managing the operations and quality control of all earthworks, asphalt and concrete operations on large infrastructure projects.

He holds diplomas in laboratory technology and asphalt & pavement studies as well as a University certificate in concrete technology at the University of Derby.

Dimitris Michailidis – Technical Manager – Road Surfacing & Operational Improvement

Dimitris’ role at Kilsaran centres around the optimization of asphalt plant production and the quality control of asphalt mixes. He is responsible for the implementation of innovative mix designs, supervision of the plant laboratory and the overall project quality control.

A Pavement Engineer with over 17 years’ experience in large scale infrastructure projects and holding a technical QA/QC and construction management role, he possesses technical experience in pavement industry including standards, specifications, mix design and plant operations. He has strong experience in highway construction, pavement materials and pavement management systems. He has expertise in pavement condition assessments and analysing non-destructive testing data and an excellent knowledge in pavement maintenance and rehabilitation strategies.

He has a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering from Teesside University and Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from TCD. He is a member of the Greek Technical Chamber, the Institute of asphalt Technology also a member of the NSAI Roads Standards Consultative Committee Asphalt WG.

Robert Breslin – Technical Manager – Paving, Walling & Blocks

Robert is responsible for the quality management and product technical support function associated with our Paving, Walling and Block product ranges. 

Having over 10 years’ experience in the building products industry, he has also held various roles in the precast concrete industry prior to joining Kilsaran as a Laboratory Technician and progressing through to his current role as Technical Manager.

Holding a degree in Construction Management, Robert has also recently completed a specialist University Certificate in Concrete Technology from the University of Derby. He is now in the process of completing a Diploma in Business.

Pat Reid – Regional Technical Manager (Midlands Area)

As Regional Technical Manager, Pat has oversight of the quality management and technical support function for the company’s activities across the midlands area including ready mix concrete, aggregates, concrete block and asphalt products.

With 18 years’ experience in the heavy building materials industry, Pat has held a number of roles within Kilsaran before being appointed to his current role as Regional Technical Manager in 2019. Prior to joining Kilsaran, he worked as an R&D Food Technologist.

Pat holds a Diploma in Food Science and Technology from University College Cork and a Cert in Quality Control from College of Commerce Rathmines.
